Front Yard Play

Fact 1: I am a super paranoid Mommy
Fact 2: We have a backyard but it's not fenced & I don't trust my kids to actually stay there
Fact 3: I can't always go outside with the big boys due to taking care of babies or it's too cold for the babes to be outside
4: We're starting to have really nice weather & I'm having a guilt complex

When I was younger I used to wonder why my Mom wouldn't let us ride bikes around the whole town with my friends when I was like 7 years old. Now I understand! There's a lot of great people out there but there are just enough crazies to make me paranoid. So I never let the boys outside without me but last week we had some really nice days & I was feeling really guilty about keeping them cooped up. So the first day I let them go outside for 20 minutes before I could get out there with the babes and they loved it of course. Then the next day I let them outside again in the front yard & I checked on them like every 3 minutes & they did a great job staying in our driveway & yard & they stayed out for 2 hours on their own without fighting or whining once!!! And I had no guilt. It gave me a beautiful sneak peek at what life will be like when we have a fenced in backyard & nicer weather in general! I cannot wait!

And the sweetest thing-I gave them their lunch on the porch & I noticed from inside that they were both folding their arms while Hyrum said a prayer over their food, all on their own!

And now, it's officially Bumbo chair time!

FUN!!! Felix loves to wander around and play outside for long stretches of time too, and sometimes I'll stick Ezra out on the grass in his walker and he'll just watch him and babble. Oh my goodness, it is awesome! It's like I've just hired Mother Nature as a babysitter, and she works for free :D
Those babes of yours are TOO DARN CUTE!!!!!!!!!! And how utterly adorable that Hyrum thought to say a prayer with Hunter!

Oh my word! That is the sweetest blog! Isn't it nice to know that the kids can carry on with the things we teach them even when we aren't there, or not watching!
I love those bumbo chairs. The babies are so cute!!

We are putting in a fence this spring, (really soon!) and I'm really EXCITED to have that peace of mind when the kids are playing outside in the backyard. I completely understand, because whenever my kids are outside, I can't get anything done, because I'm worried the whole time. :) Fences rule. Glad your new place will have one.

I am a paranoid mom too. I have a backyard but the fence is chain link and I can't let my little cutie go out alone. I am so grateful that my sister lives nearby and she has a really high fenced yard. She also has huge glass windows all along the backyard so I can do stuff inside and watch her play.

:) Yay for kicking the boys out of the house! I was one of those kids who cruised the neighborhood on my bike until dark. :) If you teach your boys right, they'll know what to do, just as Hyrum did. (too cute!)

But, as much as I want to deny it, there really are crazies out there. I'm family friends with two children who came across the wrong kind of people. One, a 4-year-old girl, was allowed to visit an elderly neighbor, who we eventually learned, from comments she made in conversation and play, was apparently taking steps to molest her. That trial is still underway. The other, a 3-yr-old boy, was nearly kidnapped by a man and a woman in front of his house. Luckily, his 8-yr-old brother was there (unbeknownsth to the pair) and shouted at him to run into the house, which he quickly did. (We're SO GRATEFUL.) The man and woman, unfortunately, haven't been identified.

There's some book I saw on Goodreads about keeping your kids safe but still letting them be kids. I'm sure I added it to my to-read list. I'll have to email it to you--and read it myself!!! What a sick world we live in. . . .
