First Day

Despite my unbelief that Hyrum could ever be old enough, my Bud started kindergarten on Thursday! I kept getting his fake smile so I told him a joke & finally got the real deal.
The best of friends (really) & it makes a Mom happy. I was really worried about Hunter adjusting because he & Hyrum do everything together & haven't even been fighting at all practically all summer long. But he seems to be adjusting fine (at least for the first two days).

All the kids
I did my crying (more than I like to admit) the night before so I was fine for the day of. Kindergarten here is full day 8:50-3:30. I was dead set on having him go just half day for lots of reasons I won't go into. But after a long story I won't bore anyone with Jeremy felt like he should really go full day so I gave in & decided we could try full day. All the math/reading/writing type stuff is in the morning & all the PE, music, art, Spanish, library, computer type stuff is in the afternoon. I know we're only two days into it but he did great. I don't know exactly what I was expecting but he wasn't tired or cranky or mean or rude or sad or any of the things I was imagining. Whew! He likes it.
I am a bit sad to lose him for such a big chunk of the day. He is such a huge helper around here & plays so well with everyone. He really is a such an easy kid these days. But I'm excited for him to be starting this grand adventure! (The thing he was most excited to tell me about the first day was how he got chocolate milk with his snack-exciting!!)

Yay for Hyrum. Yay for mom! I just realized you called me and I totally forgot to call you back...call me again...sorry.
YAY!!! I am so glad that he had a great first day. I was pretty emotionless when Clark and Cal went. I think we had been anticipating it for so long that it was what it was. But now that they are riding the bus (Lee took them the first day), waving goodbye to my boys, especially Clark, for some reason makes me sad. Maybe I feel like the big bad world is taking my boys away. THOUGH, I am really excited about the school they are at. It seems great and both of their teachers are great too. I hope they make good friends there....well, boys that are good! I am excited to hear about Hyrum's adventures!
The first one is always the hardest. So proud of everyone! It makes your summers just the best!!
I can't believe our babies are getting so big! Sophie starts next week and is going all-day Tuesday and Thursdays and assigned fridays. I'm starting to feel a little bit of stress about it, but I know that once she(and I) get used to it, it will be great for both of us! So glad that Hyrum is loving school so far!
I hear you on the whole-day/half-day decision...tough call. S and I held the same sides as you and J, although S said he'd be okay with her doing half-day if that's what I really, really wanted. H is still so set on needing her naps or she's a royal mess. Her schedule went berserk two weeks before school started, and I was so exhausted from dealing with her so tired that by the time school started I just gave in when talking to the principal and her (very sympathetic, supportive) teacher and am letting her do a two-week trial. Her teacher's got an assistant specifically for handling meltdowns, otherwise I probably wouldn't have agreed, despite the fact I'd be cutting into Lil'S's 11-2 naps in order to get his sister home for a nap. (Sheesh....) Whether or not this works out in the long-term (hopefully it does!), I'll at least be grateful for these two weeks of (relative) quiet to focus on just one child before child #3 comes along! :)
I'm so glad Hyrum's doing so well and is so excited about school, and I sure hope poor little Bug isn't too lonely!!!
This post made me sad and happy. Why do they have to grow up and so fast? I'm glad Hyrum's adjusting well and everyone else is too. And yay that he sits by a boy named Cole. Cole better be nice.:)
That last post was from me, Courtney. I didn't notice I was logged in as Ryan. Sorry!
Hyrum! What a sweet little kindergartener!! I love these pictures of him. Hyrum is so mature and so smart--he going to do fantastic with full day!!! :)
Its unbelievable how fast our kids are growing up!
